Heather Harper: “When I was little, doctors told my parents I wouldn’t be able to talk. I foundmy voice last year in writing a message to my legislator about the transit issue. I want to be known as a person that  is normal like everyone else, but with a learning disability. During my  schooling, I faced many challenges with my peers and had to deal with a lot  of teasing. I advocate because I want people to have a voice and say what  they believe in.”

Heather won a bronze medal for swimming in the 2006 Special Olympics Summer Games, was in the regional softball playoffs, and loves to ride horseback. She works as a receptionist for The Arc of Washington State, provides staff support to SAIL, and is an active member of the group STARS, Striving To Achieve Real Success.
